The Joy of Music and Learning
At Barker Music Studio, we believe in making the first steps of learning to play the piano both enjoyable and beneficial for children. The “Dog Park Key Names” activity (featured as a free download on our home page) is designed to engage young learners in a fun exercise that helps them learn the piano key names. This resource, in addition to the extensive range of products offered by Barker Music Studio, extends the task of learning about the piano into an activity that is child-focused and skill-appropriate for beginning piano students.
Piano For 3- and 4-Year Olds
The early childhood years are a crucial period for cultivating children’s interest and skills in music. With that in mind, we offer unique piano resources that are conceptually appropriate for young piano students, fostering a positive and encouraging learning experience. Our 3-book series, Piano for 3- and 4-Year Olds, is a collection of piano activities, exercises, and songs that focuses on beginning piano instruction for young children.
First, The Music Book presents the fundamental concepts of music (i.e., sounds that are high/low, loud/quiet, long/short) and the first steps of learning to play the piano (i.e., higher and lower sounds on the keyboard, black key groupings, and finger numbers). Next, First Play offers 3- to 4-note exercises on the black keys that promote finger independence and reinforce the use of finger numbers with opportunities for right- or left-hand playing. Last in the series, Songs on the Black Keys, features multi-measure exercises and simple songs that use finger numbers and simple rhythms, and highlights the use of stem direction to indicate right- or left-hand playing.
The presentation of content in each book is colorful, straightforward, and easy to understand; a perfect combination for those without piano or music experience who want to help a young child begin their musical journey.
